Abraham intercedes for Sodom
But Abraham being a good man, began to plead on behalf of these people.
Abraham said to the Lord, I don’t think you will want to destroy the wicked people and the innocent people in the same city.
He said to the Lord,
I don’t think so.
You are a righteous father.
And you wouldn’t want to destroy the innocent one with the wicked people.
So Abraham said to the Lord,
if you find 50 innocent people in Sodom, will you spare the whole city because of them?
The Lord answered them.
He said yes.
I’m going to spare the whole city if I find 50 innocent people,
And Abraham said to the Lord, perhaps if there are only 45 innocent people instead of 50 will you spare the whole city because of these innocent people?
The Lord said if I find 45 innocent people, I’m going to spare them.
Abraham spoke again.
He said, perhaps what of 40
The Lord replied I would not destroy the city.
Abraham said to the Lord again.
Please, Lord, don’t be angry with me.
What if 40 people?
If you find 40 innocent people, will you destroy the city?
The Lord responded to him.
He said I would not destroy the city.
Abraham said to the Lord, Please forgive me of my boldness of continued to speak with you.
What if you find 20 innocent people, Will you destroy the city?
The Lord said I would not destroy the city if I find 20.
Abraham said again.
Please don’t be angry, Lord
I will speak only once.
What of 10 innocent people?
Will you destroy the whole city?
The Lord said if I find some people, I won’t destroy the whole city.
So this was actually the last question.
Abraham asked the Lord.
He pleaded on behalf of this city.
And that is to tell you how grievous the city was.
Virtually everybody in that city are all sinners.
So the Lord actually went into Sodom and Gomorrah to destroy the city.
And Abraham left them (three Men) and went back home.
This is the story of how Abraham pleaded on behalf of Sodom and Gomorrah.
God bless you.
And God bless you all in Jesus’ name,
Amen
